-By A.DeLeon
Bio coming soon...
A: I heard of you through the Arizona hip hop group, Nu Alliance West; How did you first connect with them?P: We actually connected on twitter ...
Can you describe, briefly, how the two of you work together on a musical project?
Since we just started working together I can't really say much about the process - but I def think we'll do sum crazy projects together in the future ...
What other producers, songwriters and/or artists do you see as your primary inspirations?
Number one inspiration for me to make beats was Pharrell / The Neptunes - The Busta Rhymes stuff they did & later Pharrell's RnB tracks got me hooked to beatmaking ... Other artists that influenced me are Young Jeezy, Giorgio Moroder (produced the original Scarface soundtrack), J Dilla, Scott Storch, Jan Hammer (made the original Miami Vice Scores) ... Probably a few more - can't get em all together right now ...
What is distinctive about a Beats By Polo productions?
Probably the artists using my beats and listeners of em could answer this question the best. But when I make beats I usually try to create a different mood with every beat and try to find a way to combine commercial sound and creativity. I also use a lot of vintage elements in my productions
Is there an artist you want to work with that you have not yet had the opportunity to work with?
I would really like to have the opportunity to get in the studio with producers like Pharrell and make some beats. Other than that I'm really looking forward to work with any artist that tries to create good music.
What can we expect from Beats By Polo in 2011?
You can expect a few experimental beat/instrumental projects which I'm planning to release on a small indie record label.
I'm also producing tracks for a few independent movie projects and I'm also really looking forward to work with great artists like Nu Alliance West.
Do you prefer originality over conformity, even if it won't make you as much money?
Most Def ... I think sooner or later listeners and fans also will realise that they're often beeing fooled by the music industry and their ''made'' artists releasing one bs ringtone album after another just to pull some quick cash out of the pockets of 14 year old girls & boys that want ''a real gangsta to take home'' ... I believe that - thanks to the internet - indie labels with unique music will have the chance to be more and more successful in the future.
When did you know you wanted to be a producer?
I first wanted to be a rapper and had no decent beats - So I just started making beats and then got more and more into it.
For me producing music is kinda like painting. You can create something new and basicly do and use whatever you want to get your final product - that got me hooked.
Any inspiration leaked and soaked up by other producers in your area?
Not really producers in my area. But I always used to hang out in a local record store after school and it had a studio in the back.
So the owner always played all types of new and old records also for other producers,dj's,rappers to find cuts or samples - from James Brown, Kraftwerk to 50 Cent or Madlib. That was a lot of crazy inspiration to soak up.
Who are you Top 5 music producers?
1. Neptunes / Pharrell
2. Just Blaze
3. Scott Storch
4. Giorgio Moroder
5. ... still to come ...
What are your immediate music career goals?
I just want to make good music, work on new different projects and be creative ...
How would you define the word “success”?
For me someone is successful if he/she is 100% honestly satisfied with what he/she's doing - and doesn't build success on other peoples poverty.
Do you have advice for young people who want to become music producers?
Always try to learn and improve your music/sound and your personality. If you do believe that music producers have 25 cars and party with the hottest stars sooner or later just for making a few hot beats every day - don't make beats ...
If you ask me make beats because you're luvin it and then decide where you want to go and how far you want to take it - full time/part time/hobby ...
Any last words, shout outs, or confessions?
Shout outs to Nu Alliance West - We gon' make sum crazy projects in the near future ...
Shout out also to everyone who is trying to make it - The World Is Yours -Beats By Polo
